Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:
- Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
