British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
Price's death comes shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Pioneering Career
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
