Her Royal Highness's Annual Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The central message of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a message before the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
