New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police issued surveillance images Monday of a suspect in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was anticipated to become an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
