Supporters Call for Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are calling for that a person who breached a barrier and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the Australian man pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being detained", though legal records showed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a derivative of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, earning several for best costume and set decoration.
