The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Does Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
