The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
