Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Military Members to the White House
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Mourners came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist public safety in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the media. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to help others.”
Service plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy caused the administration to pause asylum processing and cease providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she planned to visit his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
